Sheila Haswell
What people have to say about Shiela
Sheila Haswell has been practising Iyengar Yoga for over 45 years, since being sent a copy of Light on Yoga as a university student aged 18. She qualified to teach Iyengar yoga in 1980 and has been a Senior Iyengar Yoga teacher since 2000.
Sheila has given most of her working life to studying and teaching both in the UK and abroad. She has studied at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India on many occasions since the 1990’s as well as taking classes with BKS Iyengar and Geeta S Iyengar in Europe and the USA.
This is what Sheila says:
I began my yoga experience whilst at university. My mum Lilian Biggs (also my teacher until her death in 2005), sent me a copy of ‘Light on Yoga’ by BKS Iyengar. She had just come across this form of yoga and was sure I would also be interested. I learned and practised from the book for two years before I was able to find a class to attend, but the seed was sown deep and I have continued with the practice which has become a part of who I am.
I have been teaching since 1980 along with bringing up a family of three. I continued to upgrade my teaching certificate with further study, qualifying at Intermediate Junior level in 1991 and Intermediate Senior level in 2000.
I am an approved Iyengar Yoga Teacher Trainer and have been training teachers since 1996. I am also a Moderator and Assessor for IY(UK) – the Iyengar Yoga Association of the UK. My responsibilities have included organising the Introductory assessments across the UK for several years, chairing the Assessment and Teacher Training committee and being a member of the IY(UK) Executive committee.
I now run the Iyengar Yoga Shala in High Wycombe, near London UK, which has classes and workshops for all levels.
